Many of Sydney’s golf clubs are not easily accessible by public transport or are located by hard to access roads beside motorways.
Gordon Golf Course
Gordon golf course is tucked away among houses and bush land in the northern part of Sydney. It is a short, 4620 metre par 65 course with only two par 5 holes. There are numerous water hazards and some challenging greens to take in, as well as some hilly terrain. The course is surrounded by an abundance of wildlife and offers picturesque views from many of the holes. The clubhouse which overlooks the course is perfect for a pre or post drink or meal, and has a gaming area plus outside balcony. The pro shop is open daily selling a wide range of golfing equipment, and golf lessons can be booked with the resident pro. (02 9498 1913).
East Lakes Golf Course
The highly regarded East Lakes Golf Course is located just five minutes from the Sydney east ring road. The championship course is sand based with a links style layout and the 18 holes can prove quite a test. The course is also a pleasure to play on due to the magnificent views of Sydney skyline and proximity to wildlife in the Botany wetlands. Visitors are welcome to enjoy a drink or meal in the Links Bar in the Clubhouse which overlooks the putting green and the first tee. Locker and changing facilities are included in the green fee, and there is a resident PGA pro happy to help with any golfing queries. Amply parking facilities are available too. (02 9663 1374).
Marrickville Golf Course
Marrickville golf course is conveniently situated on the Cooks River, just 6 km from Sydney centre, and just 4 km from the airport. The 4000 metre long course requires accurate teeing and is perfect for golfers who wish to improve their short game – in fact it is regarded as one of the toughest short courses around and is a par 60. The Pro shop is well stocked with a range of golfing equipment. Visitors can also hire motorised clubs and buggies. There is also the option to book a golf lesson with one of the resident pros. The clubhouse serves a range of meals and drinks and a function room is available for hire. (02 9558 1876).
The Australian Golf Club
A members only club - overseas golfers may be introduced by the General Manager. You will be required to show proof of membership of a recognised golf club or association. 18 holes. Royal Australian Engineers Golf Club
