Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre

Sydney sightseeing

The Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre (RAN Heritage Centre) is dedicated to exhibits on the history of Australia's Navy. Exhibits range from uniforms to large weapons systems and a conning tower of a Japanese submarine involved in the attack on Sydney harbour in World War II.

There is also a range of displays dedicated to giving insight into the lives of the individuals who served in the Navy throughout the world wars and Australia's early history. The centre is housed in two heritage-listed buildings, The Gun Mounting Workshop, dating from 1922, and the Boatshed, dating from 1890. The RAN Heritage Centre can only be accessed by bus tour group or ferry due to the security restrictions of the base.

Ferries depart Circular Quay in the direction of Watson's Bay. The ferries will only stop at the Garden Island Wharf during the centre's opening hours. Address: Garden Island, Cowper Wharf Rd, Sydney, NSW, 2011.
