Nan Tien Temple

The Nan Tien Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere. It is located to the south of Wollongong, a separate industrial city which has with good transport connections to the city of Sydney.

The temple is a popular Sydney attraction and a local landmark, regardless of its relative distance to the city. You will need to make a day trip out of a visit here, and it is well worth doing so if you have an interest in Buddhism and its culture. Also known as "Southern Paradise", the Nan Tien Temple aims to merge eastern and western cultures, and has many education and self-improvement programs for people from all walks of life.

Many school, community and religious study groups visit the Nan Tien Temple for the wealth of information and resources it has on offer. Its regular events include art and craft classes, meditation workshops, spiritual retreats and information sessions about Buddha Dharma and the beliefs and practises of Buddhism. It is a beautiful and elegant building to explore, and you will enjoy its peaceful atmosphere. You can access the temple either by road or rail, and if you are coming from Sydney's centre, you can enjoy the panoramic ocean views of the rocky South Coast road along the way.
