The MCA is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting an impressive and important collection of contemporary art from both Australian and international artists.
The works on display date from 1970 onwards. Here you will find works of traditional art, sculpture, fashion and media. The MCA is a comparatively young museum which opened its doors in November 1991.
It is located in a stunning Art Deco building which was refurbished for the purpose of hosting the MCA. It was once the offices of the Maritime Services Board. Its innovative and daring collection is the distinctive mark of the MCA. With permanent and temporary exhibitions, there is always something to see that will capture your imagination.
