This 1 kilometre stretch of beach is so popular with surfers
that it boasts two surf lifesaving clubs. Maroubra Beach is found 10km south-east of central Sydney and is a patrolled beach. Not just popular with surfers, and you will regularly find swimmers and fishermen enjoying themselves here. The south of Maroubra beach is a great spot for scuba diving, and there are several local diving schools which hire equipment and provide lessons. The foreshore is surrounded by parks and reserves, so if you don't feel like a swim there is plenty of room to play. There is also a skate park behind the beach which is arguably one of the best in Australia.
Marine Parade, opposite the beach, has many cafes and shops. The name Maroubra is the Aboriginal word for thunder, a reference to the loud sound the waves make as they crash on the shore. This fantastic beach will please all comers. Address: Marine Parade, Maroubra, NSW, 2035.
