Fisherman's Beach is perfect for nabbing the catch of the day. Since European settlement this has been a popular fishing spot. As there are not a lot of swimmers around, many people also launch their boats here.
The beach is tucked behind Long Reef, which makes it safe for swimming
. However it is not a popular swimming spot because the seaweed and clay base beneath the water gives it an unappealing brown colour. Many locals can be spotted windsurfing and kite surfing
around the reef. The well-regarded golf course on the foreshore is also popular with locals. Fisherman's Beach is much quieter than some of the surrounding North Shore Beaches, and is a good place for a picnic or relaxing afternoon in the many grassy areas.
Those that have watched the famous Australian TV show Home and Away
will be interested to know that many of the scenes are shot on location here and at nearby Long Reef. Address: Fisherman's Beach is part of the Long Reef Aquatic Reserve, Anzac Ave
, Collaroy, NSW, 2097.
