The Big Day Out is an annual concert, or concerts if the demand for tickets is there, that started in Sydney in 1992. Other cities around Australia and New Zealand have been added to the Big Day Out tour.
The Big Day Out is on in January and February. The venue is the Sydney Showground at Olympic Park. Several stages are used around the venue and this allows a large number of performers to be in the Big Day Out. In Sydney, the stages are the Orange Stage, the Blue Stage, the Green Stage, the Converse Essential Stage, the Annandale Stage, Lilyworld and Boiler Room.
All types of music is played at the Big Day Out. Often the biggest acts are rock and metal ones but there is also rap music, folk music, blues and other categories.
As the concerts are outside, and the show lasts all day, it is important that those attending bring the correct clothing for the weather, sun block and a bottle of water and food. The Big Day Out have a warning listed that to cool the audience they may use a water hose and that could be bad for electronic devices like mobile phones.

Metallica, Nirvana, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Bjork, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cult, Silverchair, The Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Black Eyed Peas, Rammstein, Beastie Boys, Paul Kelly are some of the biggest named to perform at the Big Day Out in Sydney.
Some of the other performers at the event include Garbage, Yothu Yindi, Ratcat, Powderfinger, Patti Smith, Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, Alien Ant Farm, Xzibit, The Dandy Warhols and Neil Young.
Other cities that have the Big Day Out are Auckland, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
